We are often asked about the story behind the name, The House
of Books. We looked for a name that reflects our being internationally
oriented. Moreover the name must make clear what, according
to our view, a publishing house should be first and foremost:
a house and home for its authors. Our house full of authors,
illustrators and books wants to be a model for all those homes
in the Netherlands and Flanders where there is room for and
interest in 'books for readers'.
The array of authors and titles hosted by The House of Books is greatly varied. Stories based on real events, like that of Farah Diba Pahlawi, the kidnapping of the Austrian schoolgirl Natascha Kampusch and the story of topmodel Petra Nemcova, who survived the tsunami in 2004, but lost her boyfriend. Literary novels by Jodie Picoult and Charlotte Link. Books by international bestseller writers like Sophie Kinsella, Cathy Kelly and Marian Keyes. Thrillers by Clive Cussler, Andy McNab, Tess Gerritsen, Benny Baudewyns and Lisa Jackson, to name just a few. Children’s and juvenile books by Peter Hoogenboom, Mel Wallis de Vries, Sabine de Vos and Marja Baseler. Strong-selling series like the Hoera!-books by Marianne Busser and Ron Schröder. Books on cookery, like the series of Basic Books. And non-fiction intriguing documents of a period by well-known journalists such as Karen van Ede and the Flemish performer Geert Hoste.
